Scott has owned and been President of Career Directions Northwest since 1981. He holds a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling , granted in 1979 from the University of Northern Colorado, a Council On Rehabilitation Education (CORE) Accredited Vocational Rehabilitation Masters program.
Scott is a Portland native. He attended Portland Public schools and then Whitman College studying Economics and Psychology. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Portland State University in 1977. Scott began working in the Vocational Rehabilitation field while still an undergraduate in 1976. He began working in private sector Vocational Rehabilitation in 1979.
In addition to continuing to provide Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Scott's specialty is Forensic Vocational Evaluation and Vocational Expert services. Having been President of the Oregon Chapter of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals,on two occasions and a board member and committee member of the National Association of Rehabilitation Professionals in the Private Sector (now IARP)he is well known locally and nationally as a Vocational Expert..
He was contracted as a Vocational Expert to the Social Security Administration for over three decades providing testimony at the request of Administrative Law Judges. He is one of the most widely utilized Vocational Experts in Oregon and Southwest Washington. He has consulted and/or testified at the request of attorneys in a variety of cases involving Personal Injury, Product Liabiiity, Professional Liability, Worker's Compensation, Employment, Longshore and Harborworker's Act, Defense Base Act, Jones Act, Employment and Family Law.
Scott is one of few Vocational Experts in the region who is A Diplomate of the American Board of Vocational Experts (D/ABVE). He is also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS), and International Psychometric Evaluation Certification (IPEC) certified. In order to maintain these certifications he has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education in a variety of areas relating to vocational rehabilitation, testing, career and employment issues, disability and counseling.
Scott has supervised over sixty rehabilitation counselors over the years. He has trained many Vocational Counselors who continue to practice in various settings. He is frequently asked to speak on vocational topics at local and national conferences as well as a lecturer in graduate programs.
Scott has worked directly with individuals providing vocational rehabilitation, career counseling and testing for over four decades. He has been named as an Expert in hundreds of legal proceedings. He has had the honor of being named Rehabilitation Professional of the Year by the Oregon Association of Rehabilitation Professionals and has spoken on several occasions at OARP conferences.
